Sad, sad turn of events due to today's lousy economy and decisions by politicians that many of us do not agree with, but that is a different conversation...or is it?
Really is sad. Nice shot.

Another line on the "Could'a, Would'a, Should'a" list.

This is sad news indeed. How will this impact Ontario Northland in general? No Newmarket sub means no interchange with CN to the South. Is the Polar Bear Express next to go?

Like I said, the prospect of closing the Newmarket Sub is pure speculation on my part. They've talked about it in the not-so-distant past. Some folk are saying CN might save it to route traffic from Rouyn-Noranda more directly to Toronto, avoiding the congestion around Montreal like they did when forest fires forced them to detour said traffic back in 2010. That would make sense to me, but I'm not CN. We'll find out when we find out, and no sooner.

Sad to see the ONR disintegrate, glad there are photographers out there documenting them. By the way, nice reference to The Doors ;)

Well the good news is that CN won't be closing the Newmarket Sub anytime soon. Word is they're in the process of upgrading parts of it in preparation for taking over the ONR tracks from North Bay to Cochrane, then over to Hearst. That gives hope that more freight traffic might be in the works, but I'll still lament the loss of the Northlander.

I was planning to take the Northlander to Bracebridge for a Thanksgiving weekend in Haliburton.
Unbenounced to me it was already cancelled over a week ago. You think they could of held out for the fall colours or at least for a Thanksgiving excursion for a lovely last run!
