The irony of the shot is nearly sickening. Very clever framing of the sign and debris, it drives a point home.

Insert "Price is Right" losing horn.

I'll second Josh's comment. And add; finally, a wreck photo that is more then a wreck.

Thanks guys it helps to that I work full time as a photojournalist so I have to make the photo say more than just here is a train wreck.

Before reading the description I thought to myself that this was a staged scene for Operation Lifesaver or something similar, as there is no way that a truck saw the ABSOLUTELY NO TRUCK CROSSING sign let alone the physical grade crossing slope and actually attempted it. Just proves that you cant stop stupid.

I heard Norfolk Southern dispatcher Donny Parks talking on my scanner here in Spartanburg. There were as least 4 trains backed up. I searched this accident on the internet and found an article which said that you would be covering this. I knew I would see a photo like this. Great work!

And just how many times has this type of accident happened there?

Come on. Not again.

I wonder if the GPS service he was using could be held liable in any way.

Another entry for the 2012 Darwin Awards. I just hope the trucking company gets a nice fat bill for the damages and the driver gets a chance to explore the employment oppotunities in the fast food industry.

That train must have 'bookin'.... pretty clean cut through that trailer.

I'd guess the driver of that truck will recieve the inevitable "DCM", aka- dont come Monday!

Stupid is as stupid does. That driver deserves to loose his CDL for life and loose his driver license for a minimum of 10 years! Anyone that stupid does not belong behind a steering wheel of any vehicle. Driving is a priviledge, not a right. In a way, it's reassuring to know that if your children grow up with the IQ of a doorknob, there's still employment opportunities out there for them.

This is certain to occur again. Maybe the crossing could be redesigned, or closed entirely.

As Bill Engvall would put it, "here's your sign."

OK. I can understand that since this is North Carolina and the truck driver may not be able to read, But there's a picture too! I bet he can't use crayons too well either!

You know, fortunately for us stupidity is not contagious. Unfortunately for the driver of that big rig, neither is intelligence!

While I'm glad the driver wasn't hurt, It's a good bet ( and to other motorist ) he won't be sharing the road in a truck with anyone again.
