It's 2003, and in a western-hemisphere nation surrounded by countries to the north, west and south that have used diesel power for decades, the image of "el Che" stares at a part of his legacy.

Many thanks to all of you for your kind comments. Very much appreciated! Unfortunately, almost all of the cuban steam locomotives have now been scrapped. Only a few of them survive on the island and are used on tourist trains.
