Trains actually did continue to "run" through the remnants of the Arlington Yard after 1985, since there was a customer or two east of the yard that was serviced by Delaware Otsego (NYSW) after the end of Chessie operations, and probably some even all the way down on SIRT trackage rights beyond St. George (I did see a NYSW EMD switcher on the SIRT in the Clifton-Grasmere vicinity once, but I don't have the particulars - or any photos). Lumber Terminal Corp. between Union Avenue and Harbor Road was probably the last Staten Island freight customer, and I have some slides of freight cars delivered to them in the early 90s.
