How is the initial reliability of these units?

I've no idea! Merely a visitor to NZ who saw a train coming and photographed it. I didn't even know there were any Chinese-built units running in NZ until I found a bit about them on Wikipedia.

They seem competant, but are not proving terribly reliable by most reports, with mainly electrical issues and other teething troubles that I'm sure will be ironed out in time. A year since their arrival, I think the last of the first batch of 20 are just entering service now. Powered by 20 cyl German MTU engines.
