Please note the large center rear window on the third RP20Bd. I wonder just how long crews will put up with these, before asking that they be painted over or plated over. Alco RS-3s had windows in this location that were later over covered on most of the units that were set up to run short end forward. That is a very large piece of "non-standard glass" that will be expensive to replace. Two notable examples of such "non-standard" glass were the large single front window on the first low hood GE-U25s, and the "L" shaped right hand "Engineer's windows on some early Illinois Central and Alaska Railroad E.M.D. products. I notice that these RP20BDs are air conditioned, however operators can still get a sunburned neck when this large window is facing the sun and the locomotive is facing away from the sun. Another option might be to add large metal "Sun Visors" such as those that were added to many early E.M.D. and Alco yard switchers by the C & O and other railroads.
