Southern cabs with yellow bay windows were an easy way to find the "branch Line" cabs in a large rail yard. The all red cabs were the "main line" cars. Several years later The Southern gave the "Green Light to Innovation" and gave many branch line cabs roof mounted solar cell panels, As the cars did not travel far enough or fast enough to keep their on board batteries charged.
