Very interesting historical view from inside the flag ship of the NYC. Thanks for sharing.

This is indeed Elkhart, as the track arrangement visible through the windows clearly indicates. No other spots like that anywhere from at least Toledo west. The Century is on track one (the westbound main) and track two has a switch with moveable point diamond crossing track one toward the "Old Road" that has since been replaced with a rigid diamond.

Dad offered me a trip on the 20th but in the end my Mother talked me out of it. It is about the only thing I ever held against her! For you younger fans, let me point our that the people are in suits because that is the way people traveled in those days. If I had ridden, I would have been in a suit too. The idea was you showed you had middle class respectability. You can thank me and my generation for throwing out the dress up codes of our parents. Also notice the ashtrays since smoking, while not allowed everywhere, it would be allowed here. I remember the smell just looking at this photo. Thanks for the very fine photo Bob.

Further evidence of an Elkhart stop for location is the base of the signal bridge seen partially on the left. That bridge still stood as of a couple years ago at least. Platforms for the Elkhart station are out the left side of the photo. And I thought the same as Mr. Brown re the turnout on the other main being the route to the Old Road up into Michigan, which at the time of this photo, was a high-speed NYC freight route to Jackson. That it was a moveable point switch I didn't know. I appreciate all your great photos Bob.

Great shot! Really takes you back in time. "HICKORY CREEK" (one of the famed tail cars of the 20th Century Limited) has been restored and shows up on occation in the north east. Had the chance to ride from New York City to Albany on a round trip excursion up and down the Hudson River, her original route. On lookers, both young and old were excited to see her go by. Even the engineer came back to see what the extra weight was all about.
