Thanks for sharing this interesting maintenance photo. It's always facinating to me to see the internals of a steam locomotive.

Please note the formerly used "Line Shafting" on the right wall of the Marley Hill engine shed. The large spooked wheel is partially inset into an opening in the wall. That opening probably was for the main drive belt that connected to whatever was the source of power, which could have been a stationary steam engine or possibly water power. Other machines in the shop were then driven by what would have been vertical belting to the line shaft. In some places when electricity came into use, a single large electric motor would have been put in place of the earlier power source. Now it is simpler to power each machine with it's own electric motor. When all machines were powered by the "Line Shaft", each machine would have been started or stopped by an idler pulley on a movable arm which would apply tension to the drive belt for that machine.
