The engineer is waring a white railroad cap. That's typical of SAL era railroaders. I wish I could find one now!

The train crews were RF&P personnel based in Richmond Virginia. The crew would bring the train up from Richmond on the morning run and bring the same train back from Lorton to Richmond in the afternoon. I worked at the Lorton terminal in 1979 and was fortunate enough to ride the Lorton to Richmond run a few times in the cab.
