While running short-hood forward MAY have occurred with some regularity on the Oyster Bay branch, LIRR considered the long-hood end the "Front" and normally ran their C-420s and all other roadswitchers long-hood forward. I believe this was partly a carry-over from the prior PRR ownership days and also provided the crews with an extra measure of protection at the MANY grade crossings which are often traversed "at speed."
