These were rebuilt at South Louisville Shops, and were part Alco and part EMD. Their prime mover (diesel engine) and main generator were changed to EMD, along with the radiator fan and the control stand. Most other equipment in the cab remained Alco. this one still has friction bearings, but many of these got roller bearings. Not all of these had four digit numbers as some got two digit series. Also note the movable shutters are now gone and replaced by perforated metal mesh.
