Prior to Amtrak, just plain local folks would spend an afternoon on the lawn at Alexandria, bringing with them folding lawn chairs, and coolers filled with beverages, to watch the evening parade of southbound limiteds. The Crescent would be first, followed by the Seaboards's Silver Meteor and then ACL's East Coast and West Coast Champions would bring down the curtain. Other notable streamliners throughout the day included the Southerner, Silver Star, Silver Meteor and C&O's George Washington. By the way, the construcrion behind the train in this photo is for the Washington Metro, and where an elevated rapid transit station stands today.
