The train in this photo has a mix of ex-New York Central (clerestory-roof cars) and former New Haven P-S Worchester-built cars. The fourth car is most notable as it was ex-NH 1000, an "American Flyer" coach remanufactured by Pullman-Standard with smaller, rubber-mounted windows and upgraded interior, as a pilot model toward rebuilding the road's entire prewar fleet of lightweights. Ultimately, it was destined to remain a roster unique, as was the original paint scheme when rebuilt, consisting of red below the windows and black everywhere else.
