Michael... A very nice photo or what remains of Manhattan Jct. In my teen years (1969-1976), there was a manned tower (24-7) and a full electro-mechanical interlocking that protected the Ann Arbor's double-track main crossing the old W&LE's Cherry Street Main. The PRR also had an influence here at one time as well with trackage rights over the Ann Arbor between Galena Street and Alexis, which was the Pennsy's route to Detroit. The PRR's "Red Arrow" passenger trains once ran on the abandoned track seen in your photo, which at one time was the Ann Arbor's East Bound Main to Galena Street. And speaking of Galena Street, that interlocking was remotely-controlled by the Manhattan Jct. tower operator through a table-top interlocker that sat on the operator's desk. By the time Manhattan Jct. tower closed, Galena Street was no longer needed anymore and it died at the same time. Thanks for sharing this photo with us and stirring up old memories for me...
