I would ask "what was the van driver thinking?", but that question is probably based on a false assumption.

I would have loved to hear the pleasantries exchanged between the train crew and the van driver.I imagine IQ's,legitimacy of birth and ethnic heritage were discussed in depth.

I railfan this area quite often and on any given day there are many similar close calls here with the streetrunning trains, like this one. After a while, it seems like the engineers almost come to expect it. Probably why the train speed limit is 10 MPH.
