The non-standard headlight mounting suggests this was a former Southern Pacific, or Cotton Belt locomotive, that was originally supplied with the SP-style, 3-piece, headlight/Gyralight package, mounted on a tall, vertical bracket. The bracket has since been trimmed down to accomodate just a headlight.
