As a locomotive engineer, and occasional closet railfan, I would have to agree with you.... usually the most intersting locomotives to railfans, are usually the oldest and biggest hunks of junk to the engineer when it comes time to pull. That being said, one of the main reasons that I don't railfan anymore is because the Class 1s are about as boring as a summer day is long. Thank God for the regionals and short lines that still run the C30-7s, and other pre-dash 8 GE's!
