Looks kind of like its boiler jacketing is bare metal with the hue and value it appears. Especially with much it contrasts cab, wheels, and tender, in thumbnail view. Is it indeed not painted or is that just the way it is reflecting light being at very different orientation to light source than are vertical sides of cab and tender?

This and the other BO steam shots John contributed were taken at the Robey St. yard, at about 14th & Wood St. Roundhouse was tore down early 70s. Property is now UP Global One ramp.
