It is a shame that this great monument is largely ignored. But, let us be glad that if it is needed this monument to our exceptionalism will be there and serve the purpose the viaduct's builders foresaw a century and a half ago.

The only catch was that the Erie Lackawanna favored the former DL&W main via Scranton as the primary east-west route at times. Still, there were plenty of pacing options. One was to pace a northbound D&H train up the old NYO&W grade to Forest City, then over Ararat Summit to Starrucca Viaduct where a D&H southbound would usually be waiting. If one was super lucky, an over-and under shot would be the reward.
