There were only 9 (#100-108) of these babies built for the Santa Fe less that 4 years before Amtrak, thus they spent most of their careers painted blue and gold in freight service. Some, maybe all, were Kodachromes for a while. I count an amazing number, six, remaining at various museums but only the one at Orange Empire operates. It was renumbered many times starting with 108 and now carries 98. She still is geared for passenger, was used to lead company business trains, has had her steam generator replace by a big block of concrete, is painted in the red and silver warbonnet scheme, and has an antique version of DPU control.

A wide cab before wide cabs took over Class 1's new motive power deliveries. Outstanding photo, Marty
