Nice pic, but you better post the Milw shot soon!

Very nice shot. Those SD-40's look so new. Ah, the days when EMD ruled the rails.

That is a very nice shot... I'm trying to figure out the track configuration because its a bit different now? Wonder when it changed.

Most if not all of the changes at Junction City took place after the WC takeover. The track to right of the train is the siding. There was not a connection from the Soo to Milwaukee Road in the SW quadrant of the Wye at the time of this photo. I think the track left of the train was removed by the WC along with the NW Wye. I have no idea if it was reinstalled for Weston coal trains or if they back around the SE Wye to head toward Wausau. By the time WC was done there were Wye connectors on three sides of this diamond, along with a longer siding along the ex Soo and another long siding south of the diamond along the ex Milw. All this is subject to my memories from about 1999-2001 which was about the last time I set foot in Junction City. I often wonder if the bar where I used to park and sometimes strolled into for a cool one between trains is still there. If I remember right it was called Dago Joe's, probably been renamed by now.

CN installed the NW wye from the Superior Sub to the Valley Sub. Junction City really looks quite different now than what it did in the 70s and 80s! Although the bar on the corner is still there. It has been renamed now. That looks like quite the site, I really wish I could have been there!

The bar is still there! I parked where the old depot once was. There is a wye on ever quadrant of the junction now... they installed the NW part just a few years ago, it wasn't there yet in 2003 the last time I've been there so I'm not sure when it was put in. The BNSF now delivers to the Weston coal plant... SPW symbols via the Northern Pacific route to the CP then to New Lisbon. CJWs take the Central old CB&Q route to Chicago, interchange with the CN at Eola, go up through Fond du Lac, Neenah, Stevens Point coming from the East. When UP served the power plant, they came from the south from Necedah. Not sure when or how the new Wye is used, but its pretty cool its reinstalled.
