Well that Answers my question. She's a real beauty. Never knew there was any WM steam left. Thanks for sharing this. Deano

Talking to one of the crew members, he said that she is in really good condtion for her age, the boiler pasted the ultra sound test, and once the firebox is replaced she should be ready to go, they hope to have her running by 2010

Before 202 was moved to the park it was almost completely rebuilt by the Western Maryland. There is a small group of dedicated volunteers working on the restoration of this engine which was partially retubed in the eighties, though before anything can truly move forward a major source of funding would likely be required, that and a place to run, and perhaps most important, permission from the "children of Hagerstown" to do so. WM's original contract with the city stated the engine cannot travel more than 50 miles from Hagerstown and must be back within city limits in 24 hours. On the other hand, the engine was at one point sold to a gentleman named John Long but he had since donated back to the city.

I'm heading out to visit this locomotive. I'd love to see this thing run on the WM Scenic RR or something to that nature. It seems perfect for that- now to write a check for $1M to make it happen ;)

I hate to slam on WM fans, but this engine looks good as a static display. But what happens to the people in the community? Now they've lost a steam engine, and the closest one will be miles away now, just because some one wanted to blow their retirement savings to restore it. I hope I didn't offend anyone, but honestly. I digress, if it does get restored, it'll probably go to the WM Scenic RR.
