These units were plagued by a lot of problems in their electrical systems, many of which were aluminum. GE could live with the problem, ALCO could not. They gave it a great deal of effort, but they had no chance in view of their inability to survive the growing pains of the C430, C630 and C636. GE had the ability to survive a disastrous error (U50Cs, early U30Bs and U30Cs with aluminum electrical components) ALCO didn't have the resources to develop their own electrical equipment and be cost competitive with GE and EMD.
