I never tire of shop photos particularly Strasburg's. I would say that the wheel lathe (a Niles?) is what separates the men from the boys. (I think the TVRM has the only other working one in the US.) The quality of Strasburg's work is attested by the fact that the Union Pacific trusts them with the wheel work of their great ambassador 844. To do so, the UP must ship the wheels thousands of miles by truck.

Well I must admit that I would not have predicted this as a PotW. That's not to say that it doesn't deserve it, as it most certainly does - a very well handled shot in tricky lighting conditions, and I love the blur of the chap in the blue overalls. Kudos to the boys at Railpictures for moving away from the obvious and selecting this one instead!

Great photo! I love the contrast between the old technology steam locomotives and the new computer technology on the lathe on the left.
