The Western Maryland 6 makes the "other" 6 look smaller than it would be than when seen near a more normal size Shay, such as Mower 4. WM 6 often doesn't sound like she is working as hard as the other power at Cass, and it is undeniable that WM 6 doesn't need to work as hard. I had the chance years ago to chase N&W 611 and 1218 on trips out of Buffalo, with identical consists. 1218 would walk along in her ideal horsepower range and using less coal than 611, which was straining at times with the NS excursion consist. 1218 disappointed me, until she got hung up in the west end of Conneaut yard in a very heavy rain storm. On her third attempt 1218 found her feet. I will never forget that. WM 6 can do things no other engine at Cass can do. See her while you can as her major boiler test has to be coming up soon.
