Nice shot, I've never seen the interior of a GP38 with the extended cab.

This unit, former Conrail 7673, is an extended cab GP38 delivered to Penn Central in late 1970 as 2013. It was conveyed to CSX and renumbered 1947, then to LLPX as 2015. These units were delivered with dual control stands to allow for bi-directional operation. The unusual control stand is probably a vestige left over from the original cab configuration. The extended cab purportedly allowed crewmembers to walk around the cab in front of the control stand. Kalmbach's Second Diesel Spotter's guide has a photo and info on these units, as does Bob Yanosey's book, Penn Central Power.

Ahh I remember that Stand well. the semi pyramid thing has your gen field switch, ditch lights and the like. I worked on the engine when I worked at Shenandoah Valley Railroad. I miss it, it pulled well.

These were not two control stands when new.It was one huge area in the center of the cab from one side to the other, and you walked around either the front of the rear of the cab. That is why the extra room in the front.
