Love it because the trolley pole is down and it is still running. This is either Dziobko magic or the power is in the slot between the rails. In either case it was to eliminate distracting overhead wires. Beautiful shot and scan John.

On the DC network the cars drew power from a 3rd rail in the 'Conduit' in the city centre (in fact most of the system). Some lines, notably the line to Friendship Heights and the line to Glen Echo, both gone by 1960, used conventional trolley poles and overhead wire on the outer extremities of the system.
