Please note the fall arrest gear above the locomotive and the elevated safety shower at the right of it. There is a coiled hose and a valve above the pilot that are probably connected to the locomotive's air system. Finely ground Fertilizer can be considered flammable material under certain conditions. It's probable that covered hopper cars loaded at the plant have any excess spilled fertilizer removed from them at this location, prior to being placed for pick up by the railroad that serves the plant. The plant switching crew can use the on board air hoses to blow excess fertilizer from their unit. All of the above comments are signs of a good plant safety program. As it has been said,. a good picture is worth a thousand words, and this is true of your photo Jessie. Thanks for your posting.
