If memory serves me correctly, I believe that the tubular upper member of this bridge deflected a German bomb during World War II. If not for the unique design by I. K. Brunel, the bridge probably would have been destroyed. I am not aware of any other bridge that has the support tubes of this historic structure. If I am wrong please correct me.

Don't you mean 'leaves Devon', rather than 'leaves England' or are you a Kernow independence supporter?
