This reminds me of funny observation conveyed to me by a DME employee while sitting in his hyrail next to a crossing. He told me to watch the motorists as they crossed the single track we were parked on. "They'll always look both ways. They'll look at you, and then they'll look down the track the opposite way. Which is odd because if we weren't here they wouldn't look at all, but since we are here they feel the need to look at us and then look down the tracks in search what? An oncoming train? You'd think they'd realize that if there was a train barreling down this track from the opposite direction that we sure as h*** wouldn't be sittin' here twittling our thumbs in this hyrail truck!"
