It looks like someone has plowed the signal maintainers road. Also notice that the signal at the left in Cody's photo is not powered by an elevated land line. The relay cabinet has three battery vaults next to it which probably contain glass Edison batteries. It is possible that normal electrical power is brought in underground and the batteries are for backup power only. Vaults recessed into the ground as containers for Edison batteries date to the first electrified signals on United States railroads.
