As a teenager, I was fortunate enough to get a cab ride westbound from Montauk in one of these truly magnificent Fairbanks "beasts" on a summer Sunday night. The cab seemed to be "miles" above the ground, though the long climb up was certainly worth it. Visibility was excellent and the 2400 series seemed to have more power than was ever really needed, even with a long train.
