The builder was General Motors Electro-Motive Division. 1260 units were built between Dec 1965 - Dec 1971, eventually replaced by the SD45-2. Power output was 3,600 hp from a 20 cylinder V20 motor. It had a propensity to break its own crankshaft. Many SD45's still exist, some rebuilt with 16 cylinders, called 645's. This unit, "Hustle Muscle" is the first production and is operable.
