Those are some well-dressed railfans! Next time I go chasing, I'll have to put on some slacks and a sportcoat, as an homage to these fellas!

Steve - Thanks for posting this bit of history. How lucky you were to still have steam into the mid 1960's. Most railroads in the USA completed dieselization in the late 1950's. Nice photo!

Steve, I was there that day. My train from Derby arrived in time for me to see 35026 departing for Newcastle, but I was extremely disappointed because I thought it was going to be an A4! In those pre-internet days, when the magazines were way out of date even before they hit the bookstalls, getting up to date info was not easy. My disappointment was compounded by the fact that, of all the MNs, 35026 was the only one I had already seen, as it had worked a special through Derby a few months earlier. I guess your shot was taken before the loco. came on to the train. I "bunked" the shed later in the day, but it was a pale shadow of the place it had been a year or two earlier, when there had been lines of locos, including several A1s, waiting to be coaled under those impressive towers.
