This first SD7, former EMD demo 990, wore three numbers for the Southern Pacific, including 5308, 2715, 1415 and finally 1518. It is thus interesting that the first EMD GP7, EMD demo 100, wore that same 1518 number for its eventual owner, Chicago & North Western, and also resides at the IRM. Based upon Electro-Motive's Illinois roots, I would love to see both displayed, side-by-side, in demo colors for at least a couple of seasons.
