I concur. I don't see any panel on the loco that is not bent up, completely amazed that they could rebuild it.

Looks to me the only thing salvageable was the fuel tank

I think if it happened today in the current economic climate, it would be scrapped on the spot. The frame looks well and truly bent, I wonder what percentage of the original loco remained after the repairs!

Actually, the walkway is bent and that's like a sub-frame. But if one looks closer the frame looks alright and so does the fuel tank. I think that given all the external damage to the car-body, there at least had to be some major internal items worth repairing, like the engine and main electrical equipment.

Most fans and employees would take one look at this and say she is as good as junk and not repairable. The only Class-1 railroad that would come to mind in repairing something like this would have been CN. I too remember seeing the video of this wreck happening and said right from the begining that it would not turn out good. Great Shot!

Oh wow, what happened to this loco? Looks like a wicked bad accident; any pics of the rebuilt loco?
