I am guessing the guy on the right with the lever in his hand is a brakeman just in case of any sudden stops? Looks like it would be some ride.

As a former gandy myself, I can't get over the fact that they are workers in tongs! We always wore steel-toed shoes. But, I like these pictures of laborers...the true backbone of any railroad. Keep the shots coming. Thanks!
