Despite it's road number, this is actually an ex-Virginian Trainmaster. Wabash had all its TMs re-engined by Alco prior to the merger, so there were significant changes to the hood ventilation, including the replacement of FM's louvers with bare carbody filters. Also, except for the two ex-demos, all Wabash TMs had lower end platforms to better m.u. with other makes and models, a trait shared by Southern Railway's H24-66 units. The renumbering was most likely done to preserve an equipment trust agreement, wherein a paid-for Virginian unit got the number of a retired ex-Wabash unit on which the company still owed money.
