A great shot and a great story! Nice to see there are railroaders who are also railfans!

Beautiful portrayal of winter on Stevens Pass, Rosco! I'm not even going to ask how you got down there without falling into the creek.

That's me but I wasnt' on the train when it had to be placed in emergency, I was on the Westbound Z power. I more or less volunteered us to dogcatch the train since the crew was on short time. It was the stack train's conductor who ultimately put the train in emergency.

If it wasn't for the Water, I'd swear, that this is a scene straight of the TRAINZ Computer games.

Great story and great photo. I love the composition. Andy, a FRED is a Flashing Rear-End Device (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashing_rear-end_device).

Great shot! Great story and feels like cold feet from here. Here being toasty Phoenix, Az. It got my PCA vote as you had to work to get this one.

FRED= Flashing Read End Device. How in the world, Greg, did you have 26 hours on duty?

If there isn't already a comment in the queue, FRED stand for Flashing Rear End Device. They're on the end of most freight trains and it sends critical information to the crew what the rear end of their train is doing. See photo ID 181853 for an example.

Great shot but better yet GREAT STORY! Kudos to Greg-W for first wading through the snow a few times, second for being on duty for 26 hours and third for posing like Nixon on the lead WB!

WOW, the pose made me laugh out loud. I thought it was an amazing shot... 'til I saw Greg and then I thought it was a hysterical shot.
