Believe it or not, that's actually an air-raid siren on top of the cab. Crazy stuff.

A friend of mine and I camped out in Cajon one summer night and one of those DDA40X's with the air raid siren mounted on the cab climbed eastbound up the hill. You could follow the train by sound all the way through the pass. It sound aweful, but it was VERY loud. If memory serves me correctly, this done as a result of a train running through some track workers in Wyoming.
