An absolute gem John! Foreground clutter or not.

Found another shoe box, eh? Classic! Bet you couldn't possibly have envisioned this spot then as it is today.

What a look back John. Glad you recorded it.

For me, the best looking diesel is a toss up between two paint jobs, both on ALCO PA's. One is the SP daylight, the other is D&RGW yellow and sliver with the four black stripes. Nice shot!

Absolutely beautiful John and the foreground clutter is another piece of RR history. Everything in this photo is gone.

Beautiful view, I doubt anyone will complain about foreground clutter on this one. Hard to believe not one of those handsome SP machines were saved.

Way Cool! - Anymore hidden away?

Oh My! Now those are locomotives! Thanks for posting this little time capsule.

PA's are my all time favorites. I also like the D&H colors. Thanks for this post John. Great stuff.

This is a scene I would try to recreate with Athearn PA1s... but it never looked as good as this. Thanks so much for the great post. Oh, and I agree, PAs were the best loking diesels of all time, hands down.

Amazing scene you captured there, John. I just stared at this image for 10 minutes. Keep em coming!

Beautiful Loco's, Love these colors. Great shot John.

Instant PCA, right here, right now, no fuss, no muss. Trains magazines may have called PA's overrated a couple of years ago, but they were surely the most aesthetically pleasing diesel locomotives ever built - especially in Daylight colors. All others were pretenders to the throne.

PA's a thing of beauty that my wife just doesn't understand. Great Shot

Wonderful historic shot. Those PA's are just beautiful in the Daylight paint scheme.

I am partial to the D&H's PA's but this is just awesome. I like the radio antennas up top. These must be PA3's, as they lack the decorative styling just behind the cab side windows that the PA1's ans 2's have.

Very classy colorful Daylight PA shot John! FYI, there are some things still left from this 50+ year old shot like the track layout the PA's are sitting on, some of that paved asphalt is still there and most notably the brick West Oakland Diesel Shop (very visible from Interstate 880), now condemned but still saved from demolition by our very own Railpictures.net photo contributor "tracktime" Harry Wong.

One of the best paint jobs ever. We will forgive the clutter. In your view finder, all you could see was daylight.

There is no way Amtrak could command this kind of style and sense of permanence. SP sadly couldn't keep this great show up and be fair to their shareholders.

As a guy who had the great oppoturnity to see these beauties and the other PA beauties in California, Warbonnets, I have to give into my home state pride and say that it might be hard to find another place in the US that you could find such beautiful locomotives in one place (LA). Now that everybody east of the Rockies hates me, I will say, John, thank you so much for sharing these with us and hope you will share more.

Nice shot John! Did the Southern Pacific Railroad painted the pick-up truck the same "Color" as the PA's????????? Interesting!!!!!!....}}:^)
