Interesting! Nice catch.....

I'm confused...are scenes like this really elaborate grafitti or are they artwork that BNSF allowed to be done? They are very impressive works for sure. Great catch, Jim.

Wonderful indeed i am amazed at the detail on this like the other "Jim" said is it professional or Graffiti I love to see the wording and etc aka Tagging on the rail cars. There are some great artists out walking the streets and rail yards.

What great artwork! Perhaps BNSF could have local artists dress up their cars in storage a little.

To anyone who thinks this is beautiful, a work of art, imagine it on your car, instead of one of BNSF's cars. Still impressed?

Classic work of art. I Personally hate graffiti it makes my work difficult especially when the jerks paint over all the info I need, but whoever painted this shows some respect for the Railroad carefully taping off the important info and actually painting something easy to the eyes and rather beautiful. It may still be vandalism, but I give this guy kudos to this class act.

Mitch...If I had thousands among thousands of cars rolling around in the same paint scheme and someone takes it upon themselves to tag one of them like this with all of the important information on the cars masked off, I'd try to find them for the simple purpose of having them do some more for me. It's not like the artist "ruined" anything. But I do see your point and agree with your logic, though I seem to have a different opinion than you on how I'd respond.

One wonders how on earth he/she had the time to do this

Considering the fact the car data is not painted over and is instead painted around and left in neat boxes, and the yellow safety stripes are on top of the mural, this is most likely a railroad approved project.

I agree with the idea that this is railroad approved, because don't they have similar paint jobs on other coal cars?

If I parked my car where the railroad parks some of its trains, I wouldn't be surprised to have some graffiti. The artwork is still very engaging in many instances. I wish some of the taggers would get to work on the traffic light poles passing for wayside signals these days.

Great catch! As nice as a picture as that is, I HIGHLY doubt that the artist/vandal actually taped everything off. After a closer inspection to the lettering/stickers on the car, they are all new. Note how the reflective striping is also new and on top of the picture/mural. All of which were likely re-applied by a shop crew that didn't have the heart to repaint the whole car. I second Mitch Goldman's comment.
