Nice shot. Well framed photo. I know your question is rhetorical, but the answer is YES. If motorists were that alert, we wouldn't need the double crossing gate intersections that we have. Bad drivers, especially ones on motorcycles, are what I call DGITs (pronounced like the word "digits"), it stands for "Dead Guys In Training".

The stop signs and yield signs have been put there to both make motorists more aware of what their responsibility is when approaching a railroad crossing. The other reason is to clarify that responsibility for law enforcement officers. I know this from an inside source that was instrumental in making stop/yield signs the standard on RR crossings. He told me that several LEOs tried to ticket the trains for not yielding!

Awesome job here Jim! Everything was perfect! The scene is just waiting for some idiot to come charging into the frame! I love how you turned a normally boring scene into something dramatic and interesting!
