That Pullman-built stainless-steel car ahead of the dome car, is a former Missouri-Kansas-Texas, "Texas Special," 52-seat coach that came to Amtrak via the Northern Pacific. Although Seaboard and the RF&P had almost identical cars, those had a stainless steel roof, while the Katy car's were painted. Also, the name panel and two number panels, on the lower side corrugations, are MKT characteristics.

This locomotive is featured in the last scene of the 1967 movie "In the Heat of the Night" with Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger. The movie predates the merger of GMO with Illinois Central in 1972.
