Marty, Thank you so much for posting this image. I think that many railfans have favorite locomotives that inspired much of their lifelong love of railfanning. For me, EL #823 was certainly one of those. I saw her about six years after you snapped this picture at Woodbine Yard in Spring Valley NY... my first ever E8! The biggest looking engine I could remember ever having seen. Your image is terrific and brings back a flood of wonderful memories.

All gone now.

I'll too take some time to say "thanks" for sharing these gems. The Erie Lackawanna in Chicago... puts them on the map outside of their hometown for sure.

I kept looking at this image thinking it could be a model railroad layout because none of this stuff in the image is around anymore. There are so many things thrown into the scene as if a model railroader was looking through a scenery handbook. For instance those wire reels and that wooden reefer on the right. The weathering job on the E unit is superb. The Tru-Scale track looks pretty real but the ties are too uniform. The RS 3 must be a Hobbytown Zimac casting and the caboose is definitely an Ambroid 1 of 5,000. This picture is really wonderful. Thank you Marty.
