I have never been lucky enough to catch two NS or Southern Railway units doing what EMD and Southern Railway intended. Southern SD40-2's were built to do just what you were lucky enough to catch. Both of these locomotives are running forward as indicated by their high mounted bells. The long end of these two is in fact designated the front.
