This GP7, as a U.S. Army original, was delivered with AAR Type-A yard switcher trucks. It was transferred to the Alaska Railroad, which at the time was owned by the U.S. Government, Department of the Interior. Alaska re-trucked them with AAR Type-B road trucks from retired RS-1 units. The chop nose, spartan cab and dynamic brakes were added much later by ICG/Paducah, during a Comprehensive Locomotive Rebuilding Plan. As newer model Geeps (GP40, -38 and -39-2s) were acquired, Alaska eventually sold off their earliest GP examples.
