Obviously they aren't rolling anymore, but what have they been converted into?

It looks like they're still rolling to me, they look like they're part of a Cwr Mow train.

I was able to find this train on windows live local. Definitely some sort of CWR train. On the map it looks like stick rail is loaded up and fed thru the cars to be welded. Pretty interesting if thats whats done.

Actually the box car is not owned by Amtrak. It's owned by A&K rail in North Haven, CT. The car is welded to the rail. The box car contains the welding equipment used to join the stick rail together into welded rail. A rail train is then backed onto this siding and the rail is loaded onto the cars.
