I honestly think that looks far more realistic than those other Big Boy shots from that shoot. Mitch Goldman jumps in the time machine back to Cheyenne in 1948, and bags a PC vote from Ken.

Sweet textures on the side of the tender; just a bit of tele-compression creates a caterpillar's worth of wheels, nice.

Wow Mitch, very cool shot. And I'm glad you waited to post it so it didn't get lost in the pile of other shots sent in at the time of the shoot. Very well done, PCA from me as well.

Another real nice one and I don't even really like steam--sorry about that. Love the angle. Very nice write up and great compliment to the 6936 (which I do love).

Just wanted to tell you that I love your picture and that I have voted for the PCA for it

Give Mitch a camera and let Pete make some fake steam and they will turn a rust streaked, cold, lifeless, almost derelict hulk into a living, fire breathing, thundering locomotive from the past. All without turning a wheel. Creative genius at work. Cool picture.

Yet another spectacular steam shot, Mitch. My new RP.net favorite, and my PC vote, too! And Pete Lerro really knows how to make a steamer look like its alive! My hat is off to the both of you!

Thank you all for your kind comments. I've taken the liberty of writing a true yet vague story which implies that this engine has in fact been restored to operable condition. As stated in the last sentence, however, the effects - specifically the smoke, were created by Lerro Productions and unfortunately not from the living breathing giant that last saw service in Wyoming in February of 1962. Reports indicate she is in good mechanical condition though costs to restore and run are extremely prohibitive and will likely keep her as a static display at the Museum.

We can dream of seeing this someday for real. Thanks for the outstanding shot Mitch!

Great shot! I will use it for my desktop for a while! Thank you, Mitch.

Thanks for the followup comments, Mitch. You almost had me fooled that it was 1957 and somehow UP 4012 got lost on its way back to the roundhouse in Cheyenne :) Excellently done!

You should have seen when UP 4012 was pulled over sharp radius 100 pound or less rail coming and leaving Steamtown Opus 2 in Riverside, Vermont. I like this dramtic steam shot. Thank you Mitch.

Da-yum, Mitch. Just a head shaker here. Almost too good for words.
